Introduction of the Tokamak Design Division

The Tokamak Design Division of ASIPP was established in 1997, which is based on the Tokamak General Design & Research department and cooperates with many domestic in China and global institutes throughout the world. ASIPP is mainly charged with the engineering design of Tokamak design and development and electromagnetic analysis research.
The engineering design of Tokamak machine includes assembly strategy, the optimal design of the poloidal field (PF) magnet system, the modelling design of the toroidal field (TF) magnet system, the design of CICC, vacuum vessel, thermal shields, and the cryostat systems and so on.
The electromagnetism analysis includes the optimal analysis of the poloidal field(PF) magnet system, the analysis of the Tokamak machine with regard to engineering design thermodynamics stability, and diagnosis.
The ASIPP has developed a strong design team which involves many top professional researchers and scholars, mostly with a doctor or master degree, who play important part in their respective research area. Representatively, Yuanxi.Wan has been voted as the executive director of the Asia Plasma Association, and he is the founder who initiates the IAEA TCM OH SSO international meetings.
The ASIPP team has developed very important professional designing software, such as AUTOCAD, CATIA, etc. We also take a lead role in developing the techniques of designing software as ANSOFT, ANSYS, and VISAL FORTRAN and so on.
During the period from 2004 to 2006, the department assumed, and successfully accomplished the general design of EAST Tokamak machine, which is the first device designed with fully super conducting coils.
The Tokmak Design Division is now actively engaged in the design of EAST, ITER procurement package, vacuum vessel device, cryostat system, NBI, ICRF and so on. And a major next step device for China in the demonstration of a prototype fusion reactor.
